Address Validation: set up own rates based on the address status

Overview

You may charge higher rates set with Table Rates for residential addresses. Check the residential status of the destination address entered at checkout before calculating Table Rates.

Address Validation: Configuration Steps

Before you start: make sure you have at least one Table Rates Shipping Option, for which you want to apply the Address Validation

Step 1: Enable Address Validation feature
Step 2: Add a Shipping Segment with specific address status (residential or commercial)
Step 3: Add Table Rates Shipping Option and apply Method's rates to Product Segments

After you finish: check applied address status in the Activity Feed while testing

Step 1: Enable Address Validation feature

Open Address Validation Settings and enable the feature:


  1. Shipping Areas. Only destination addresses in the selected Areas are validated. Leave empty to validate every address. Limiting the Areas avoids unnecessary calls and credits usage.
  2. Qualify "unknown" addresses as. The address type used when the result is unknown, for example Residential.
  3. Display address status in the Order Notes. Shows the validated status in the order.

Step 2: Add a Shipping Segment with specific address status (residential or commercial)

You will find the "Address Type" attribute when adding a new Shipping Segment. Add 2 Segments: Segment 1 should cover residential addresses, Segment 2 should cover commercial addresses.


Step 3: Add Table Rates Shipping Option and apply Method's rates to Product Segments

Add Table Rates Shipping Option and create the Shipping Method. In the Method's settings > "Algorithm" section select "PRODUCT SEGMENTS" in the "Apply rate conditions to" setting.
