When a customer places an order in your Shopify store, Calcurates writes the details of the selected shipping method to the order as order metafields. You can show these fields on the order page, edit them, and use them in Shopify Flow. Each value has its own field, unlike the Order Note, which shoppers and other apps also write to.
| Metafield | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Calcurates Method Description | The description of the shipping method the customer selected, as you set it up in Calcurates |
| Calcurates Packaging Results | The boxes Smart Packaging selected for the order. Filled for carrier shipping options |
| Calcurates Delivery Date From | The earliest estimated delivery date of the selected method (Date type) |
| Calcurates Delivery Date To | The latest estimated delivery date of the selected method (Date type) |
| Calcurates Residential Indicator | Whether the shipping address is residential or commercial |
Calcurates fills a field only when it has data for it. For example, the delivery date fields stay empty when the shipping method has no delivery dates set up.
Calcurates adds these metafields unpinned, so they don't appear on the order page until you pin them.
You can edit the values on the order page. Calcurates owns these metafields, so you can't delete them. Leave them unpinned if you don't need them.
Calcurates metafields are app-owned. Since May 2025, Shopify doesn't let other apps read another app's metafields through the Admin API, so tools such as Make or Zapier get an empty value. To pass a Calcurates value to another app, create a Shopify Flow workflow that copies it into your own custom order metafield when an order is created. Other apps can then read your custom metafield.
